1/100 – Tubby vs. Damiano
It was my first night at the club with Skorne and with all the new toys/trying not to clock myself I neglected to take pictures. I’ll do a brief run through of the games and make sure I get pictures at the next one!
I am playing Tubby Winds of Death (see the previous Skorne article) vs Mark who is playing Damiano Trenchers in King Maker Theme (double trenchers, double min halbs, 2 heavies, 1 light, solos and ambushing boomies)
I win the roll to go first and as I have no idea what to do so go first. Deployment is one turtle central, one on the left, tubby and lights etc in between and reivers on the right. Slingers AD. There are a load of bunched up trenchers on my opps AD line which is 19” away from the slingers. 2 runs to be within 8′ of a few of the trenchers – Tubby walks up and arcs 2 BOCs into the unit – clearing half of them and knocking a few down. Great start! Everything else runs to be outside of the 16” threat of trenchers apart from the turtles (they can take it!)
Mark runs up and takes some pot shots, killing a few Reivers and moving the rest of his force forward. I look at the table and contemplate feating, but it would only be for 7/8 trenchers so take another turn of shaving models off the table and staying out of threat of others. Same thing happens on Marks side – at this stage all but 2 of the slingers are dead and half the reivers are dead. My turn 3 and I can now get enough into the bulk of Marks army to feat, including one of his heavies. Tubby feats, BOCs models out the way, lights clear more lanes, Reivers go and clear most of the halbs/trenchers and then the turtles go nuts – one clears a few more trenchers and a nomad, the other clears most of the left flank. Mark has 1 heavy and handful of infantry left with most out of range of my army so we call it there.
Very strong attrition game from Tubby!
2/100 – X2 vs Arkadius
I was very excited to be playing Adam again – Adam has been switching between Menoth and Minions for Mk3 and tonight was all about the pigs. He is a very tough player who put me through my paces when I started (I’m sure he could be clearing up tournaments if it wasn’t for him wanting to have fun while playing and not taking all the broken stuff – filthy casuals 😉 ). We face off X2A vs Arkadius beast spam – His list is double big pig, double spray pig, double gorax, double gun boars, gremlin swarm, doubly eferit scouts, targ and Eeilish (I think?). We played spread the net on a table with terrain on it 🙂
I win first again – upkeeps go out, durdle forward to hide behind a house in the centre of the board, some forests on the left and a wall on the right. I put X2 too far forward, and we work out that he could run and then frenzy to get 2 attacks on X2 – not a great run but no need to have it on the table so we move X2 back a bit (Adam 1-0 moral victory). Adam comes outside of threat of the beasties (hiding behind the house etc to stop me charging) and manages to gun down one of the archidons (not expecting that). The rest of his stuff takes up position, and the gremlin swarm moves up to be in prime annoying prick location near my flag.
My turn, 1 archidon has 1 fury on after Adam did the gas shot from the gun boar – it fails its frenzy check and goes into the other archidon. On this turn I just position to threaten zones and not get shot (krea, walls etc). X2 backs off as the assassination is legit.
His turn he tries to shoot down another archidon and leaves it on 5 boxes. He puts a solo on the flag and goes 1-1 on scenario
My turn 3 and its go time – One archidon kills the scout on his flag and lightning strikes back to behind the wall (joy!). The Archidon in his zone flies over the forest and kills the light in there so I now score it. My square zone I score and the rest of beast position to hit back.
Adams bottom of 3 and he feats to kill 2 archidons and a krea. I then hit back with Tibers/X2 one Archidon and by the time the dust has settled go 4-2 up on scenario, and I’m out of his threat. From here Adam clears his zone and scores but cant contest mine (5-3) and then on my turn I run X2 to the other flag, keep scoring my zone, tibers sits out of threat in the middle zone and I contest his zone. Adam eventually clocks, however, it was a scenario game at that point or a maintain the lead to turn 7 as I couldn’t lose at that point.
Really cagey game and lots of mistakes by me. Thinking through this game on the way back, all I needed to do was start a piece trade and he can’t win – he has 4 heavies vs my 8 with X2. A better play on my part would be to jam the whole lot down his throat – force his feat out – lose 3/4 heavies then counter punch with 5/4 heavies and x2. From Adams side I think he needed to get more from the feat – he took 2 archidons and a krea – I think he needed to kill Tibers with it as post feat it was looking rough for him once the heavies go down. Always simple in the dojo!
Enamoured by Skorne, I picked up a Mordikar list that the Skorne council of elders had come up with. The more I get into Skorne, the more options there are and the themes are amazing. More on this soon.
Saturday is a tournament in the London Shark Tank – what better way to jump into it than with 2 games under my built with new factions and new casters. I am sure it will go well.
