I knew i would be facing a mountain king and a war wagon and was worried that the other i’m pairing with this one (Kruger 2) Which relies on control might be hampered by the huge bases. I was also interested in finding out how this list deals with armour so i decided to drop My Kruger1 list and see how it did.
I won the roll off and decided to go first and my opponent picked the side with a trench for Gunny to stand in. I deployed my forces in a long ass line with my Wolf Riders hard on my right flank intending to push them hard up one side to try and divert his forces while my Death Wolves went on the opposite end. With maxed out hearts in the list the plan was to have them sit in the other zone and never die. My opponent deployed fairly centrally with the bushwhackers on the flank opposite my death wolves and the fire eaters opposite my trackers. I preyed the fire eaters as i knew i could remove them fairly quickly and then swap it over to something else and the prey would help make it that little bit more likely.
Circle Turn 1:
I wanted to push aggressively and far up the board to claim as much real estate as possible. I ran everything up keeping my wolf riders back a little bit to be out of range of the eaters, and spacing out my trackers to reduce the amount he could hit. Kruger puts up Gale Winds and Skyborn and advances up with my force.
Trolls Turn 1:
My opponent started the turn with Gunny, putting up guided fire and advancing into the trench. The Blitzer ran up aggressively as did the Krielstone, popping aura and running to be infront of Gunny. The pyre troll moves a bit and shoots the fire eaters to set them on fire but he rolls well and does 2 points of damage to the eater directly hit, even under stone. The fire eaters get stuck into my trackers with thier assault spray and killed off four of them, we forgot however that guided fire was only for battlegroup so a few trackers died but we remembered this too late, my opponent rolled quite well though so i think a couple would have died anyway, so not the end of the world. The mountain king advances and sprays another but fails to hit due to Gale Winds. The bushwackers stand and aim and put a CRA into one of the death wolves who burns a heart to take a point. Finally the war wagon moves up and tries to scatter a shot with the big gun onto my weavers but this deviates the wrong way.
Circle Turn 2:
I start the turn with Kruger. I put up skyborn and gale winds and advance behind the house, i then feat and drop all three templates on the kriel stone reducing it to just the stone and the UA taking the pyre troll and the fire eaters out of the bubble. My Weavers go in on the blitzer with 5 of them charging it and one running to annoy the bushwackers. 5 charge attacks at dice -9 later i do no damage to the blitzer which was a shame but my luck on the other flank balanced out as my trackers moved up, clearing out the fire eaters then switching my prey over to the pyre troll, there were only three that could get in range of it but they handily killed it, allowing me switch prey again, this time over to the MK. My shaman put up hunters grace and again charged the MK to get in range of the ravagers who ran up. Ghetorix again advances up behind my wall of Tharn to make sure he is kept safe. My other unit of ravagers moves up and the death wolves advance to be in the way and tie up the bushwackers and my wolf riders run up the board to take an aggressive flanking position.
Trolls Turn 2:
My opponent begins by moving the Krielstone out of the zappy hazzards left my Krugers feat. They put up their bubble and do their best not to be in the way. The MK moves up and sprays at the ravagers on the other side of the house damaging a few of them but missing most due to gale winds. The war wagon joins in and blasts at the ravagers, missing and scattering but still clipping four of them chipping away at all of them for 2-3 points. It also flails away at my death wolf infront of it and can’t kill it due to cannibal magic, even with help from the fell caller. The bushwackers who are not engaged run around to be in the zone and the two that are charge at Skoll and my weaver, he misses the weaver but hits Skoll doing a point of damage. The blitzer activates and puts up it’s animus for bulldoze, pushing away my girls to create space, the then advances up, clears out a couple of weavers with his melee attacks and a couple of ravagers with the gun. Gunny stays in the trench and feats.
Circle Turn 3:
I knew this was my turn to pour on the pressure and so got the ravagers stuck in, three charged the objective leaving it on 3 boxes and one killed off a couple of bushwackers. The death wolves finishing the job, clearing out all the remaining bushwackers and the objective, with Tala putting 5 points of damage into the wagon with a combo strike. My Gorax primals Ghetorix then moves round to block LOS and charge lanes to Kruger. My trackers go first and run to get out the way as Gunnys feat stops them shooting. My shaman fire off a chain lightning to kill the last two kriel stone bearers to make my life easier. A few ravagers from my other unit get stuck in with most of them rolling poorly doing 1-2 points but one of them massively over achieving with a roll of triple 6 for a staggering 12 damage! Ghetorix finishes the job, warping for strength and going to town, finishing him off with the last attack, overkilling by 1 point. I made a mistake here by not moving Kruger into the zone to start scoring, i was instead blinded by the cover and the prospect of being Def 24, in addition to this, like a goon i also completely forget to activate my wolf riders -.- But even so, a pretty good turn.
Trollbloods Turn 3:
My opponent feels the pressure here as his left flank crumbles and knows he has to try and keep Gunny safe. He thinks about going for an assassination but with only ranged attacks to do it with, and with Kruger being Def 24 he decides against it. He instead does something i didn’t expect and runs Gunny past all my stuff and the half way line to keep the house between him and the majority of my stuff, and in the rear arc of my other stuff to avoid charges. He does however make the mistake of getting over zealous with his Blitzer who charges my Gorax and maxes out his fury leaving him with no transfer targets (Also leaving the Gorax on one box) The war wagon flails away at my wolves and high def infantry not doing a great deal besides making me spend another heart.
Circle Turn 4:
Time for Kruger to do work. He charges Gunny and boosts the attack roll. I hit leading to sustained attack and with the charge attack and 3 more boosted melee attacks i drop Gunny.
Victory for Circle!
Despite being worried about the armor i didn’t actually realise how much of a rough match up this was for my opponent. Gale Winds is an absolutely insane spell and can completely shut down ranged armies. In addition my feat was perfect for sniping the stone meaning his armor wasn’t so tough to crack. But saying that, me and my opponent discussed the game afterwards and concluded it would have been better for him to brick everything up and try to push one flank hard and use the building in the center to negate how much i could get to him at once. All the same though, a really great game!
