This was my 4th Game with PoM and my second game with Sevvy (The first of which, along with my second ever game with PoM, using PReznik you can find on my clubmates blog learning to love the swamp)
I was a little worried about this game as my list is predominantly a gun line and my opponent was using black industries which i knew would make his list a little tricky to crack at range. Luckily enough he had 4 bonechickens and a colossal, none of which would benefit from carapace so i knew what my targets would have to be from the start.
My opponent deployed all of his heavies and his colossal centrally with two arc nodes on either flank, this didn’t give much away so i deployed my Idrians opposite their prey target, the Kraken with my reckoner and battle engine on one side, and Durant with his redeemers and blessing on the opposite flank with Rhoven and Co, Sevvy and the choir behind them all. My opponent won first turn and we got rolling.
Cryx Turn 1:
My opponent runs up swinging his force round the left side of the building in the middle with only his arc nodes on the right. Spectral Steel goes on the slayer who remains fairly central.
Menoth Turn 1:
I advance my Idrians up, go to ground and take some shots at the Kraken since it can be seen over the building and they do pretty between eye of Menoth and prey they’re hitting at dice off 5 for each guy and they manage to take out all but a couple of boxes on one side, the rest of the force runs up into position with Blessing hiding behind a cloud to avoid the reapers pull (In hindsight it wasn’t necessary as he had vision on him)
Cryx Turn 2:
My opponent gets aggressive. After repairing the Kraken a bit with Morty and her buddy he charges the Kraken into my Idrians, engaging 3 of them and throws out a sweep attack only managing to hit and kill one due to defenders ward. He takes his kill shot at my right most redeemer, clipping the other one, a choir boy and one of Rhovens buddies. Fortunatly none of them die, with the directly hit redeemer taking a few points. His Defiler advances up and takes a spray at my Idrians, missing them all. The rest of his force run up to toe his zone with only one of the bone chickens contesting mine. His buffed slayer sits behind the house in the centre being a nuisance.
Menoth Turn 2:
Time to deal out the pain. I start the proceedings with my reckoner who advances up and takes a shot at one of the chickens, flaring it and dealing about half it’s health. One of my Redeemers softens the Kraken up some more and the Idrians finish it off, swapping prey to the closest chicken which they also kill, swapping it to the chicken at the back which takes a few points from the remaining one or two and then the vessel advances up and blows the other chicken off the table. My choir sing battle with one of them repoing over into his zone to contest, Rhovens mates put themselves into positions to shield guard things and Blessing can’t decide what he wants to do so runs back to be in range of a shield guard.
1-0 to Menoth
Cryx Turn 3:
I forgot to take a photo on this turn so my account of this turn is a little hazy.
With my Idrians still being dug in my opponent realises that he can’t reliably kill them off this turn but i misplaced prey as the slayer just needs to stay behind the house to force my idrians to move and clear it out so i could score. So as such the slayer keeps on chilling. The reaper manages to kill off on of them and he kills my contesting choir boy with an arced spell and DJ tries to kill off some Idrians with a spell or two but fails. Morty advances up behind the reaper and he passes, we both score.
2-1 to Menoth.
Menoth Turn 3:
It’s my turn to turn up the aggression dial and i force him back into his zone to keep him busy so i can keep scoring my zones. The Idrians move around the building and the ones who can see the slayer take some shots into it with the others taking a CRA into the reaper. Blessing runs up to toe his zone to try and catch him out with the combination of repel and Vision. The Reckoner runs across and the vessel advances to keep control of my zone while the redeemers blew his objective off the table and took a few chunks out of his other heavies.
4-1 to Menoth.
Cryx Turn 4:
My opponent evades my cheeky repel/vision play and uses his machine wraith to walk it out of the zone and over to an Idrian, which he clobbers. Bad Blessing! Between a few void gates, a shot from the Nightwretch and the slayer he kills a bunch of them. My opponent decided that the game was going downhill fast and so got Morty involved who charged in and finished off all the Idrians she could reach getting a bunch of souls.
We both score 5-2 to Menoth
Menoth Turn 4:
My opponents aggressive play with his caster puts him in a very assassinatable position, i aim with the reckoner and boost a shot into her doing half her boxes even after a focus and the redeemers finish off the job.
Victory for the Creator!
I think that his list having so many jacks that didn’t benefit from the theme benefit of carapace did a lot to help me out this game. At the same time however i think if my opponent had been more aggressive and jammed my list with his heavies i would have struggled a bit more as my list is prominently ranged. All the same though, good game!
