My opponent deployed in a giant wall of meat with some champs on either side and everything else towards the middle. I deployed with my vessel and Reckoner on the right, the redeemers on the left and the Idrians slightly to the right. Unfortunately my opponent won first turn so we got rolling.
(Forgot to take a picture for the deployment)
Trollbloods Turn 1:
My opponent runs everything up as far as he can with his fenblades intermingled with his kriel warriors to try and bait out vengeance.
Menoth Turn 1:
Thinking about my turn one i’m still not sure if i did the right thing or not. I decided that with my list being mainly ranged I couldn’t just run into the zones, i’d have contested the zones and stopped myself getting behind on scenario but i wouldn’t be able to outgrind him in melee so i decided to advance up as far as i could and then take some shots. By the end of the turn i managed to kill off about 5 kriel warriors and I put a couple of points of damage into the right unit of champs. I was limited to the how much i could kill as a lot of my anti infantry is ashes to ashes and with his kriel warriors intermingled i had to be careful.
Trolls Turn 2:
I forgot to take a photo this turn i’m afraid! D:
My opponent decides to just get stuck right into my lines which is exactly what i was afraid of. Luckily my Idrians did their job of being alive and being a pest by sitting there with defenders ward. He rammed a couple of kriel warriors into my idrians and put even ground up again.
Menoth Turn 2:
I clear out the Kriel warrior jamming my reckoner with one of rhovens mates, and manage to kill off all but a couple of the fenblades with all mah gunz. I also put a bit more damage into both units of champs and shunt my idrians into the zones a little more. Sevvy shuffles up, arcs death sentence onto the left unit of champs and feats keeping madrak inside the bubble by about 3/4 inches.
Trollbloods Turn 3:
My opponent shoves everything further into my face, he puts his impaler into his zone and manages, between his champs and remaining fenblades to clear out the idrians from the central zone. He tried to clear the other zone and my objective but he couldn’t hit them at all even with guided hand. Hurray! Also thanks to my feat he couldn’t leach from the earthborn and it fenzied, killing off one of his fenblades. In adition he also can’t put up even ground so decides to feat to mitigate the damage i can put out and also to heal up few chip points that i’ve done in the previous turns.
My opponent scores twice!
0-2 to the Trolls!
Menoth Turn 3:
I knew this was a big turn, death sentence was out, and i’d stopped him casting even ground so i knew i had to lay on the pain. Rovens mate smacks another kriel warrior who came in to jam and then my Redeemers stand and aim and manage to drop 3 champs with a spell from Rhoven and an ashes to ashes dropping another and reducing the last one to just a box or two. On the other side, my vessel opens up, droping all the champs down to a few boxes between the initial hits and admonisher. My Idrians do what they can and my reckoner walks up and succesfully drops another couple from the other unit. Sevvy shuffles back to toe the killbox and blessing runs over to be in his zone. His champion hero survives Rhovens pow 14 spell and a big shot from something else that i can’t remember, damn dice being rude. But still, overall 7 champs, all the fenblades bar the drummer another couple of kriel warriors and one or two krielstone members in one turn was a big swing which really helped get the game back on track.
0-2 to Trolls.
Trolls Turn 4:
My opponent wanted to go for the scenario win this turn, he had to clear the reckoner, about 6 idrians with defenders ward and my objective. A tall order with what he had left and the way everything had to be positioned. His champs on the right went for my Idrians and cleared out all but a couple of them and put a few points of damage into the objective, he wanted to get his earthborn into the objective but one of the surviving Idrians and one of the champs managed to block the earthborn from getting to the objective by about a quater of an inch so he instead put it into the Reckoner, his dice weren’t great and between Skaldi, the champion hero, and the earthborn it was still standing which meant madrak had to get stuck in, taking another 3 attacks from him to bring it down. He then put up even ground leaving him on zero camp. This was a pretty good turn for him but it took a lot of time and he ended up on about a minute and a half on his clock.
He scores the middle zone
0-3 to Trolls.
Menoth Turn 4:
With 7 minutes on my clock i knew i wanted to play for the clock. I could have tried for an assassination but none of my pieces were in the best place for it and i didn’t want to risk it when i could play for a more secure way of winning. Rhoven charges a champ in the middle with his bodyguards each going in, one on his misty man and the other going at his champion hero (Who again survives -.-) I spent a while faffing around with one of the redeemers and ended up with about 2 minutes myself so i ditched the rest of my plans and instead ran the vessel into one zone, blessing in to contest the middle and the left zone and ran the other redeemer into the middle zone to make him have to clear out more things to score.
0-3 to Trolls
My opponent tries to clear the zones but after glancing at the clock slaps it over to me with about 10 seconds left. I slap it back straight away and the clock ticks down for the win.
Victory for the Creator!
Sevvy1 is as good of an answer to the Madrak1 meat mountain as i thought. My list wasn’t perfect for dealing with it as him getting jammed in limited my output but between the feat, death sentence and eye of menoth he can answer a lot of the problems that Madrak asks. This is the second game with Ste that has gone down to the clock and the second game that has been close, intense and amazing. Thanks a lot for another great game!
