Ste was running an interesting pairing of Kolgrimma in Storm of the North and Hunters Grim in… a theme i can’t remember with lots of pew pew and assassination potential. I really didn’t like Kaya into Grim as she would likely just get blown off the board so i instead dropped Kruger who had game into Grim thanks to Windstorm and plenty of models to hide behind and also had the ability to play into Kolgrimma aswell.
As you probably can guess from the title he dropped the cool grandma and we got going. Ste won the roll off opting to go first and i decided to take the side with a hill and a fog. Probably should have gone for the wall though but hindsight is 20/20.

Deployment. I deployed in usual fashion, fulcrum on one side with a warden and the rest of the battlegroup on the other side with my mannikins and bark nodes each on a flank. On his side, meat. With the mounted meat on one side.
Trolls Turn 1:
Ste moves up as far as he can, shoving a load of fury into the stone and puts his bears into the snowdrifts to make them sneaky as fuck (stealth bears… why?) Velka flanks around the house.
Circle Turn 1:
I decide to try and get a little bit of work done on the bears. I figure if i can take 1 from each unit then their effectiveness dwindles due to losing out on gang. To that end, a moist leaker gives out eyeless sight to a Wyrd who takes a bear in the left unit down to just a couple of boxes, my mannikins then finish it off, i position my Fulcrum aggressively (Too aggressively, i forgot about hunters mark) who sets fire to a bunch of champs but doesn’t do much else. I messure out the distance to Eilish and he isn’t in range to remove upkeeps from the longriders so Kruger arcs a rebuke onto them. My right mannikins spray at the other bears one of whome nearly one shots a bear (5, 5, 6 lulz) and everything else just shuffles up.
Trolls Turn 2:
I played that turn poorly and Ste was ready to punish me for it. My left hand Bark node and Fulcrum were up to far. Kolgrimma hunters marks the fulcrum, rages the basher and feats making my next turn extremely lackluster. The basher then goes in and with some crazy hot dice takes the fulcrum by itself (15% chance </3) the champs then smash into some mannikins and a bark node, killing off the tree and a twig boi. His long riders just shuffle up.
Circle Turn 2:
Ouch, that was a nasty turn which was compounded by the feat stopping my wyrds from doing ANYTHING at all this turn 🙁 The only saving grace is that Ste took a long time on that turn plotting out things he could do so i start to look at a clock win since i’m behind on attrition at this point. My two left most wardens get stone strength and go to town, the first doing quite well, clearing the bear and his handler out of my zone before TKing the basher in to put some attacks on him to, leaving him on 6 boxes. The left warden however, does a big bag of nothing. (About 3-4 points of damage to the champ unit) On the right Kruger TKs a longrider into a position where i can engage 3 with my warden and turns him round. I send in the warden and do a mighty 5 damage to the turned around longrider after all my attacks. My mannikins all charge another longrider who was out of the stone aura. Who also do nothing of value. A stone unit teleports a stone up which then place themselves up to contest his zone and score 1-0.
Trolls Turn 3:
Ste continues the grind. On the right, his bears and longriders manage to clear my mannikins and warden out of the zone, his pyre troll attempts to hurt my objective and does nothing. The champs to a serious number on my left warden leaving him on 8 boxes and velka runs around like a fanny. The mauler moves up to the edge of his zone and the basher attempts to put some damage into my warden, which with some dice spikes does just under half his boxes. Ste clears his own zone and scores 2 to make it 2-1 to him.
Circle Turn 3:
My wardens all heal a bit, i place a mannikin who charges the wounded longrider and forces a tough check which he passes. My Wyrd then moves up, kills the stone bearer to shut it off for a turn and then finishes off the knocked down long rider. I port a stone up into his zone again and decide that although it isn’t the best turn i need to feat now to hamper his plans and drain a bit more of his clock. Kruger advances up and TKs the Mauler to turn it round, bring it into threat of the warden and stop it being knocked away by the feat before pushing his stuff around a bit. My warden gets stone strength and thanks to the stone being offline this turn the warden trivially removes the mauler my left warden gets stone strength and proceeds to miss all of his attacks like a fucking clown. (Useless bastard, be more like middle warden) The full unit of stones place to block LOS and charge lanes to Kruger from the champs and the mist speaker moves up and clouds the other side to protect against the long riders and bears. I score another one to even it out at 2-2
Trolls Turn 4:
Ste continues to do what he’s been doing all game and takes a bunch of my stuff… he starts on the right, killing off my Wyrd and sentry stone before repoing to heavily threaten my zone. He is just out of range to contest though. The champs on the left, combined with Velka finish off the useless warden and Kolgrimma shimmies around the forest to keep herself safe from my encroaching heavy. His fellcaller runs to my zone and so he scores 1 to make it 3-2 to him.
Circle Turn 4:
There isn’t much in Ste’s zone so i decide to try and clear it and then get Kruger out of the approaching wave of meat. My warden gets stone strength, is TKd and moves into his zone, comfortably killing his objective i decide (Stupidly) to geomance a gallows at troll mosus which i kill but in the proccess, cap out my warden. My wyrd then moves up and kills the northkin stone attachment and the stone bearer which clears his zone but again, caps out my only other transfer target. The stones place wide to contest, block charge lanes and generally be a nuisance and the last remaining green stone places into the face of his champ to stop it charging Kruger who then runs the fuck away from the bears and long riders. I score 2 to his 1 making it 4-4.
Trolls Turn 5:
Ste only has about a minute and a half on the clock. without any faffing around he advances Kolglrimma and vanishes her into spray range of Kruger. She needs signs and portens 8s to hit at is then at Dice off 3. She lands the first two and rolls pretty well on damage taking him down to a single box but then misses the third and then the clock runs out. Good game!
Victory for the Wurm!
I don’t think i played this game particularly well. I threw the Fulcrum away too early by not thinking about what his shit could do and as a result was on the backfoot from there. My choice to play for the clock was, i believe the correct one after his long feat turn but then my final turn, getting too excited and forcing to max was very silly. If i had left my warden on 2 then i would have been sitting on 7 transfers and would never have died. But thankfully the run didn’t go off (42.64% chance to go off) But in reality, it should have been a 0% chance. Lesson learned!
