I was lucky enough to get a couple of games into some of the other England team members last night and first up was a buddy of mine Ryan with his Skorne. He is currently trying out a Zaal 1 immortals list paired with his bae Rasheth. I told him i would be dropping Morv as i wanted to try her into Skorne and upon finding out i was running a raptor he decided to drop Rasheth.
Circle – Devourers Host
Morvahana the Dawnshadow
Lord of the Feast
Skorne – Winds of Death
Max Beast Handlers
Ryan won the roll off and took the first turn. He deployed both his turtles on my right flank with the handlers behind them, his Rievers on his far left slingers out front and his battlegroup around him. Knowing i was unlikely to kill both of his turtles without a misplay from Ryan, which i didn’t expect. I decided to put most of my force on the left with only one ravager unit and the node on the right to throw contesting units at him late game. Bird was central so he could pressure the whole board. My lord of the feast goes left, he is in range of an arcing slinger but i try to position the forest to make it more tricky for him.
Skorne Turn 1
Turns out the forest didn’t make anything more difficult and he was still in range for a slinger to arc a spell at him. However he’d need to roll a boosted 13 to one shot him which he doesn’t do and instead just puts a bit of chip damage onto him. The left most turtle gets carnivore and everything runs up.
Circle Turn 1
Everything runs up, on the right i throw one ravager up to bait vengeance, on the left i make use of the forest putting some dudes in it and some behind it. Fog is cast and carnivore goes on the left unit of ravagers.
Skorne Turn 2
Ryan gets some poor luck this turn. He runs a slinger to blast range of two ravagers. Rasheth tried to boost a puppet mastered BoC at it but misses the re rollable 9 twice. It does drift back and kills a ravager but it leaves my guys engaged stopping his Reavers from shooting my ravagers so instead he just CRAs a rider down. His turtles shoot down my right hand ravager and repo back out of threat.
Circle Turn 2
My left unit kills the engaging slinger with vengeance moves then they mini feat and gobble up a load of Reavers. My bird shoots at, i think the Raider. My right unit fan out, one killing a slinger and two attempting to keep the Turtles busy. The moonhound runs to the left zone. At this point the game splits in two. I realise there is only one slinger left in the middle zone and Morv is my last activation so i could spell him down and then score it with her. I was pretty sure she would die but since it was a practice game i decided to give it a go to see how much she could take.
I score 3
3 – 0 to Circle!
Skorne Turn 3
The answer to how much can she take? Not a lot… I may have forgotten that Rasheths feat also dropped defence. So, Rasheth feats and throws out 3 sunder spirits taking my 2 transfers. One turtle tramples up rolls for 4 shots and kills her. (With another turtle, a shaman and a raider still to go)
Well it was worth a shot. Finding the sweet spot for her survivability will help me win more games in the future. BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE! We decided, since nobody else was finished with their games to re rack from where we were and play it out. So instead of going for the zone Morv simply moved behind my raptor to be safe and instead scored 2!
Skorne Turn 3 (Take 2)
So with that re racked Ryan instead put his turtles into the ravagers he could, 2 get rfp’d and one gets killed normally, he also kills off my objective. The Reavers shot a ravager who toughs. The Krea toes my zone to contest it. The Brute gets carnivore and rfp’s another.
Skorne scores 2
2 – 2!
Circle Turn 3
This turn i commit lord of the feast, he goes in and kills a slinger, cripples the spirit on the shaman and gw’s him he leaves the raider with 1 box in his spirit. My bird shoots the Krea off the board. My ravagers charge and kill the Brute and my riders engage the last couple of reavers. I put a ravager in his zone to contest.
I score 1
3 – 2 to Circle!
Skorne Turn 4
Ryan can’t really get Rasheth to safety as he’s engaged by two ravagers so he instead just tries to clear my left most ravager unit with spells, his extollers gun and the Reiver. His Willbreaker runs to my zone and the turtles continue to clear my contesting models and try to shoot some more ravagers but miss.
Skorne score 1
3 – 3!
Circle Turn 4
My raptor is able to finish off both his shaman and his Brute as they are both pretty banged up. My riders finish the Reavers and an extoller and repo in to be annoying. Morvahna feats back what she can, blocking my zone in and contesting his.
I score 1
4 – 3 to Circle!
Skorne Turn 5
Both turtles kill off a bunch of my ravagers, Raseth again is engaged by quite a bit so just spells what he can but being so low on clock he doesn’t have time to spend it all.
We both score 1
5 – 4 to Circle!
Circle Turn 5
With all of his transfer targets dead i’m able to kill Rasheth with my wolf riders.
Playing the long game was interesting. Rasheth is a tough list to play into and unless he commits his turtles hard i’m not killing them. Having the building really helped this game as i could just kit them round and slowly tick ahead on attrition and scenario. If the central piece was a fog i think Ryan would be advantaged and if it was a forest it would be about even. It’s a match i need to play more but it was good to get a rep into it (And yes. I don’t care what people are saying, this list is still incredibly powerful and competitive.
