Got two games in into my buddy Stu trying out his anti medium based infantry list which was siege 1 in Heavy Metal. I had an alternate version of Morv i wanted to try out so we got going!
Circle – Dev Host
Morvahna the Dawnshadow
Lord of the Feast
Tharn Wolf Riders
Tharn Wolf Riders (Proxied with a couple of rider champs and 3 storm lances)
Cygnar – Heavy Metal
I won the roll off and took first turn. I put a ravager unit each side of Morv and a unit of riders on each flank, my battlegroup went behind. Lord of the feast goes central ready to hide behind the house. Stu put both of his striders on the right flank and all 4 chargers on the left Triumph and Ace went central.
Circle Turn 1
Everything runs up either respecting Stu’s threat ranges or spacing to be outside of 4 inches of each other to stop leaps and ground pounder shenanigans. Fog of war goes up but it’s not really worth casting Carnivore. Lord of the feast hides behind the house.
Cygnar Turn 1
FFE goes on Siege and Explosivo goes on Triumph. Everything moves up and he shoots what he can. I misunderstood how ground pounder works and it turns out it doesn’t need to be completely in LOS so siege ground pounders LotF and kills him.
Circle Turn 2
I can get 3 riders into a charger so i do so but i struggle to hit 6s so i only do a little bit of chip damage. I run a handful of ravagers to engage and keep the rest back ready to charge with vengeance next turn.
Cygnar Turn 2
Stu’s plays this turn well. I expected a feat but he does a lot of work even without it. All of the models engaging apart from 1 rider (Who was happily contesting his zone) died, along with my second line including both ravager chiefs. He has no solo’s that can get to his flag so he doesn’t score but i do score my zone as i had a beast in it.
I score 1
1 – 0 to Circle!
Circle Turn 3
I’m in a position where i can score aggressively here. I can score my zone and flag but there is only 1 charger in the middle. I start by running my gobber to the flag. I put a ravager and a rider into his charger who roll very well leaving it on a handful of boxes, Morv then goes in and finishes it with her charge attack. She heals herself then feats down to 1 hp to bring everything back then repo’s back behind the house camping 3 I try to body block Morv in and set Ghetorix up to absorb any Eleaps that land on the ravagers. I flood his zone with guys and put some riders into his striders.
I score 3
4 – 0 to Circle!
Cygnar Turn 3
Stu is in a real tough spot here. The only thing that can get in my zone is a strider if it runs and he kills a ravager in the way. His plan was to clear the riders and run a squire to his flag, clear his zone with his chargers and kill my chef aswell as putting enough in the middle that I couldn’t easily clear it. It’s his feat turn here. Ace starts and shoots a ravager, trick shotting into the gobber to kill them both. Siege ground pounders my two riders to death but his chargers aren’t so lucky. After they have all activated they leave one, knocked down ravager alive in his zone. His only activations left are his two striders. He could have run one into my zone but then it would take it to 4 – 1 meaning i’m very likely to win next turn. He instead goes for a longer odds play that would have kept him in the game if it worked. He wanted to kill my argus and my surviving ravager with his striders. The strider moves up, kills my ravager and then puts a shot into the dog, doing good damage. His other strider moves up and needs a minimum of two power tokens to reliably take it out he only rolls one though and has to boost the hit since i’m in cover. He misses the boosted 12 and the unboosted one. His squire runs to the flag and he passes clock.
Stu scores 2 and i score 1
5 – 2 to Circle
All i have to do is walk a rider to contest his flag and a ravager to contest his zone then walk my shaman to my flag to score the two i need to win.
Final Score: 7 – 2 to Circle
Stu’s list is great but i think it really struggles on scenario. All of his solo’s are valuable so he can’t really score flags easily. His only contesting models are his gobbers so he is going to struggle on the live scenario’s. However, scenario aside his list does a lot of work so on a deader scenario i think i’d have struggled a bit more. Stu could have tried for an assassination post my feat but due to how blocked in she would have had to rely on a couple of eleaps and a trick shot, his chargers where gummed up so would have struggled to get into range without being engaged and i was camping 3 with the ability to siphon back health from the models he needed to kill to get to her. It might have still been the more reliable play but i’m not sure.
