Round 1 of day 2 see’s me up against Phil with his Cygnar. He is running Sloan in Heavy Metal and Maddox in Storm Division. Phil had been an assassin this event and both of his wins were caster kills with Sloan so i expected that from him. I thought i could possibly drop Morv and clog him up with medium bases, i just had to survive long enough to get there. He did indeed drop Sloan and we got going!
Morvhanna the Dawnshadow
Wolf Rider Champion
Lord of the Feast
Tharn Ravager Shaman
Tharn Ravager Shaman
Tharn Wolf Riders
I won the roll off and decided to go first so i could limit the amount of shooting he could bring to bear. I put my raptor just off side to the building, planning on using them screen morv. I again double down on my ravagers on the right flank and my riders take the left. Phil deploys centrally with everything ready to open fire.
Circle Turn 1:
I know he’s probably going to feat turn 1 and i decide that my ravagers are more important than the raptor here so i put him up into the zone base to base with the objective and 17.1 inches from ace so he can’t shadowfire the bird. Morv moves up behind it and the objective and casts fog of war and carnivore on the painted ravagers. Everything else moves up the board ready to engage next turn.
Cygnar Turn 1:
Phil indeed decides to feat, he moves up. Feats and casts guided fire, allocating what he can. Sloan takes 2 shots into the bird doing massive damage. Then one and a half hunters finish it off. Slightly above the curve but it evens out by the end of the turn. He then puts 5 hunter shots and 9 Minutman shots into Morv but thanks to fog of war he’s on 11s and 10s to hit and he misses a decent amount. The rest get transferred but when all is said and done, my Argus is dead through transfers and Morv is on about half boxes.
Circle Turn 2:
Aaaaand, unclench. I’m out of transfer targets so i need to slaughter all three minutemen in my zone and jam everything else up, aswell as getting Morv far enough away that she’s safe even without transfers. Between my rider champion, lord of the feast and a few ravagers I manage to clear the lights in my zone. The riders move up and put some shots into the hunters, taking the arm off of one. The other ravagers charge what they can and the rest run to engage. Morv f*cks off to a trench in the corner of the board and heals a bit. I pass the clock and hope i’m safe!
Cygnar Turn 2:
Phil manages to unjam very well. He puts fire for effect on arlan who goes and sprays 3 ravagers who kill them all but amazingly, all 3 tough. Caine kills the rider champ and the minuteman clears a couple of riders. The hunters don’t have range to Morv and decide to try and clear some more Ravagers and Riders instead. I can’t score my zone as i have no beasts and he clears his but by clearing the ravagers in his zone he leaves the chieftain as the last remaining member in the right circle so I can now score.
1 – 1
Circle Turn 3:
I’m still out of range of the hunters so know i can feat safely. I bring back all the ravagers ready to engage again or get in the zones and then dump all my fury into healing. I want to get another point and realise that his objective is in his own Ionization range so decide to fire off two chain lightnings from the shamans at it. They do a handful of damage but i roll a 3 on both leaps which is enough to clip Sloan who is also in Ionization range and on 0 camp, hilariously the dice randomly spike. Killing Sloan
Well, that was unexpected. That’s the first time that i’ve accidentally killed a warcaster but it was about the same odds as my raptor dying to what it did so i’d say fairs fair 😉 If that hadn’t happened my plan was to charge the chieftain at Arlan and likely kill him as he still had a corpse. With him dead his unjamming tools were limited to one minuteman and Caine 0 Which would likely not be enough to clear it all and i feel i could likely grind out a scenario win. Or put pressure on a planned assassination.
Onto the final!
