Game 2 was against Chris running Butcher 3
Ruin (played by Kodiak)
Torch (played by Grolar)
Min AKS + 3 Flame Throwers
Butcher3 – WGK Theme
WGRC + 3 Rockets
WGI + 3 Rockets + UA
WG Field Gun
This was the first time I had seen Butcher3 in Mk3 so I decided to go for the assassination plan and go from there. I won the roll to go first and Chris took the side with the hill and trench. Advance move put the jacks forward.
Superiority on Ruin, Occultation on Cav and Sentry on BMoth – everything runs forward.
He advances up and puts up the wall of jacks in front of butcher
I allocate 1 to Bmoth and upkeep occultation. Butcher has blocked himself in so I see an opportunity to take out one of the dogs. I CRA from an aiming AK and nail the dog in the trench – gettouta there pooch. The Ironfang charge the marauder leaving it on 7 boxes and pulling off a KD on one of the rolls, Markv Charges leaving it on a few boxes so bmoth finishes it off. Stak nails a WG and positions back with over run and jacks jostle for position.
Butcher decides it’s pain time. After the vengance move butcher can charge one of the uhlans and then suck everything in and then flashing blade it to death. He kills markov, an uhlan and torch then feats. The WGI get +2 from Joe, mini feat and go into the Uhlans – with all the sprays it leaves me with 2 uhlans. The jacks then form a wall around butcher who is camping 2.
Well its kill butcher or die time. Sentry from bmoth kills some of the sac pawns for butcher. Strak fuels Ruin with 1. The AKs and bmoth clear off some of the WGI and also land a few shots on butcher to force him to use both transfers. Strak overruns himself, feats, and then charges the pooch – pooch goes down, Ruin moves to get the charge line on butcher then puts him in the dirt.
First time playing the matchup so I’m not sure if this was the best way to play the matchup. We discussed this on episode 25 of murder of crows so you can hear thoughts on the marauder matchup then (in short I should have started with Bmoth so that I could see what was left and then decide how many uhlans need to go in).
Reform positioning was poor on the uhlans – never put anything within 12 of the butcher.
At the end of the game it was going to be 4’s to hit and then straight damage with a charge attack and then 3 purchased attack so not a bad run. The AKs being able to get lines on the WGI was big, as was some being cleared off on the sentry shot as otherwise I think I have to put all the 4’s to pull it off.
I’ll do some more thinking on this one to see if I could have stopped the “must assassinate” scenario as it’s not going to be a reliable game plan
