Few quick games from a local SR. I was trying to find a pair for Vlad2 and decided to test out Vlad1/Butcher3 both in the WG theme. Vlad1 quickly came out on top and is my current pairing with Vlad2:
Vlad1 – WG Theme
- Marauder x 3
- Juggernaut x 2
Min WGRC + 3 rockets x2
Min WGI + 3 rockets + UA
– Theme benefits are free points, advance move on all the jacks and sac pawn to WG
Game 1 vs Kae (Ret) – The Pit
I go first and run everything up, he puts out upkeeps runs up as well and doesn’t feat
Turn 2 – With S&P, Joe and CRAs the sentinels all go down bar a few. One of the jacks was almost blown off the table as well.
He feats and comes in to me however fails to do any real damage due to a mix of bad dice and low volume of attacks
Turn 3 – I clear off everything and put out a load of range/start scoring.
He comes in to me with the last of his forces
Turn 4 – I clear the rest of the forces and win on scenario
The game was decided really bottom of 1 when he didn’t feat. I kill so much that he is then in a really bad position of being out threatened and not really able to do a massive amount of damage to me in return. Anything he sends in from there I kill easily and if he hangs back I still threat for days and also have scenario. Tough matchup for whoever goes second.
Game 2 vs Helynna (Ret) – Entrenched
So this was an experience
I lose the role and chose the side with the wall to stop the drags. I’ve heard about these but haven’t seen them in practice.
Turn 1 – He runs up. I run up, put up windwall, try and keep jacks safe and block lanes with WGI/WGRC to stop drags
Turn 2 – He finds a lane to pull a juggernaut out and kills it with helios. He feats and positions on the right hand side while killing off a few WG.
I kill the objective with the rockets and bunker up for a turn with vlad, thinking the game starts for me turn 3.
Turn 3 – he finds another lane to pull a juggernaut in after clearing the WGI, but this time misses twice (lucky me!)
I load up a jugger and walk in to range of one helios, pretty much killing it. Rockets put out damage.
Turn 4 – he kills the juggernaut and comes forward.
I feat, kill 2 colossals and put a load of rockets into the third. From there it was a kill the last colossal and win on scenario.
Analysis – The pushes from helios are really difficult to protect against. I think you need to pack a few lines that can’t all be taken out with helios to stop the drags. Or just keep out of threat range. If the jugger goes down turn 3 it’s a different game. First time playing in the matchup and its another one that feels rough going second. Positioning of the jacks I need to work on – finding a spot where they are relevant but not at risk is tricky here and I think the WG as road blocks are a must – I was happy I had vlad and killed the objective as windwall felt very powerful in this matchup.
Game 3 vs Koslov/Khador – Outflank (2 circles)
*I’ll have to rush through these as it’s been a while and I have been distracted
Playing vs Jonny who was rocking Kozlov. Unfortunately he didn’t have a huge amount that could cross the board and it was a really tough matchup for him.
Turn 1 Jonny runs forward and I position out of threat.
Turn 2 Jonny feats and charges in with Kozlov staying central to the zone to try and catch as much in the feat as possible. Eliminators run to engage and WGI take a few pops. Jacks position in the middle.
My turn jacks and infantry on the right flank clear a load of shock troopers, WGRC gun down most of the infantry and the central jacks charge into his jacks
Turn 3 is mopup. Tough one for Jonny and the game was lost at list/scenario stage
Game 4 – Vlad1 vs Vyros – Recon
This was set to be a grindy game of piece trading on Recon. What actually happened was Vyros getting first turn, running up, Vlad postioning forward and popping a few shots into forces, then Turn 2 Vyros going for a pretty sketchy assassintion involving helios trying to push 3 WGI out of the way to stop sac pawn and some charging seeing through models stuff. It doesn’t work and I end up clearing the collosal and some jacks then playing 3/4 turns of vlad trying not to die, Vyros coming up with new and improved ways of trying to kill vald until eventually vlad BOK and puts vyros in the dirt.
