This is a list that Chris had put together to test against Wurmwood. But we discussed it before playing and thought that it would crush my Wurmwood list as it has too much armour for it to deal with and the feat means i can’t even force him out of scenario and win that way. So instead i dropped Tanith as she is the caster i’m bringing along to drop into heavy armour sques. My plan was to attrition him out. Get onto the flag and start scoring early and force him to come to me. I won the roll off and decided to go first so i could get far up the board. Especially with Jaws removing my AD i knew i had to go first to grab as much real estate as i could.
I deployed with a pureblood and unit of manakins on each side, with my stalker and reaves central and Tanith infront of my flag with her gobbers behind her. Unfortunatley due to The Jaws of the Wolf theme i couldn’t AD which forced everything to be squashed up together.
My opponent deployed much more centrally with Irusk slightly off towards his flag and his Eliminators way off on the flank.
Circle Turn One:
As normal i ran everything up, even Tanith as i didn’t feel like i needed to cast anything, my Gobbers moved up and put up a cloud and everything else advanced forwards, my Reeves spacing out to avoid getting blattered by too many AOEs.
Khador Turn One:
In a similar manner my opponent ran most of his things, the only exceptions being Behemoth and the Destroyer who instead took some pot shots at my reeves killing off two of them (One being the flag) and a mankin.
Circle Turn Two:
Time to get to the glag! Tanith gets placed onto the flag by the shifting stones and puts admonition up on my right hand pureblood then camps on four. My gobbers move up behingd and put up their cloud which the stalker also sits in. My pureblood moves up to max spray range and puts a few points of damage into his closest jug knowing i’m safe with admonition. My left hand manakins take a punt at removing the eliminators with sprays but they all miss. My tree continues it’s very slow advance and my left hand pureblood warps spellward and sits in the forest to keep him safe (HAH). The Reeves i can get in range fire off a couple of 5 man CRAs at the jugg that do very little and then mini feat to go to ground.
Khador Turn Two:
This was a depressing turn for me. Behemoth and the Destroyer advance up and put three bombard shots into the def 16 arm 17 Pureblood on full boxes and kill it… (4.11% chance…) So that sucks. On the flip side his eliminators only manage to kill 2 out of three of my manakins… so, count your blessings i guess. His jacks on the other side trundle up and my Pureblood zoidbergs away with admonition. His Kayazy Assassins take up position behind the jacks ready to get stuck in.
Circle Turn Three:
Well, time to avenge my wolf. I start with Tanith and feat, I put admonition onto my stalker, which in hindsight was a waste of fury. Then Primal it, I put scything touch on a manakin and affliction on his furthest forward Jug, then blast his spriggan shadowbinding it and three Kayazy that were stood behind it. My reeves step up to the plate and amaze me by putting 20 points of damage into his afflicted Juggernaut, I run my manakin with scything touch up to apply it to both of his other heavies and then I finish off his afflicted Jug with Manakin charges and a spray from my Pureblood. My Stalker charges in and at Dice +2 and beats the other Jug off the board with a spare attack left over that i put into the Spriggan doing a good 5 or 6 damage. I then move up my bellows crew to trigger Taniths prowl again and move my Gorax up infront of her to block and potential charges i may have missed. I score!
1-0 To Circle
Khador Turn Three:
Chris started things off with the Spriggan who shakes shadowbind and moves across to punch my stalker a couple of times doing a few boxes of damage. Behemoth moves up and takes out 4 Reeves with aoes while the destroyer tries to take out my sentry stone since i forgot to put up a forest. Fortunatley for me however, he leaves it one box. His Eliminator manages to finish off my stone and my gallows grove and side steps to threaten my flag. A couple of Kayazy charge my stalker for a few points of damage and Irusk moves up to his flag and scores.
1-1 Forgot to take a photo! Oops!
Circle Turn Four:
My Stalker frenzies due to primal and flattens an assassin infront of him. Tanith puts up scything touch on my Pureblood and Affliction on his Spriggan. My Reeves position and take off another 8 or so boxes from it to ensure the Pureblood kills it off, one of them moves over to contest his flag and takes two shots at an assassin which miss, and two move back to put two CRAs into his eliminator which also both miss. My pureblood charges in and with his assault spray wipes off a few assassins too, he handily kills off the Sprig with just his initials then chills. My manakins in the surviving unit drop a couple of assassins and my stones place to behind the house, ready to warp over there next turn to contest.
2-1 To Circle
Khador Turn Four:
Battle lusted Kayazy manage to bring down my pureblood and wound my Stalker, bringing it down to around 6 boxes. His lone Eliminator charges in and kills off my gobbers then side steps over to contest. Behemoth continues marching around one side of the house while the destroyer comes around the other, still firing out pot shots which helped in killing off my pureblood. Irusk kills off the contesting Reeve and scores again!
(I again forgot to take another photo. Sorry! D:)
Circle Turn Five:
My Stalker wiggles to engage all of the Kayazy and then warps berserk and manages to kill all but the underboss. He then sprints back out of melee threat of his guys. Tanith Clears off an assassin with a boosted bleed and then takes a swing with her staff at the eliminator but misses. A spawned manakin aiming and boosting manages to clear out the final eliminator as the other manikins spray off the boss. My Blackclad walked up and attempted a crit knockdown spray at his Destroyer which i found out was impossible due to solid ground. My Gorax moves around to block off charge lanes and make Irusk move off the flag and give up the aiming bonus if he wants to use his hand cannon on Tanith (I saw assassination as a possibility due to camping only one and him having arcing fire and powerful shot or Fire for effect on everything)
3-2 To Circle
Khador Turn Five:
Chris began the turn by weighing up whether he would go for the assassination. Although it was perfectly possible (55.18% chance upon checking it later) if it failed he’d have lost the game and he wasn’t in a position where he was forced into it so he decided instead to just push the attrition advantage. His destroyer took a shot at my Stalker and wiped it off the board, he also managed to do the last point of damage needed to my Sentry stone and kill the wilder who had just been healing it. Meanwhile, Behemoth came round the other side and finished off my last surviving Reeve and my last stone to stop me contesting next turn. Irusk took a pot shot at my gorax doing a few points and he scored.
I took this at the start of my next turn after already moving the Blackclad. He should have been over near to the lake)
Circle Turn Six:
With only Three models on the board and no way of getting to his flag i knew he had me beat, i thought i may as well try and go down swinging so i went after his Destroyer, I put affliction on it, shot it with my gun and put scything touch on the Gorax. The Gorax primaled itself and charged in doing, not a lot at all. And my Blackclad hit it with his stick. Not enough to bring the iron monstrosity down! And with that i shook my opponents hand. Good Game!
I felt okay about how i played this game. Obviously no game is perfect but there were no mistakes that made me die inside at least. I could have positioned my Reeves further around the house to avoid more of them getting taken out by Behemoth and i should have remembered to put forests on my sentry stones but i think what really killed it for me is losing that Pureblood on Turn two. Being down a 17 point heavy due to a 4.11% kill chance was crippling to my attrition game and since that’s the game that I knew i needed to play, I was on the back foot from before we were even stuck in. But maybe i should have kept him further back, or over to the side with my flag. In any case, a very enjoyable game.
