Circle Orboros – Wurmwood Vs Minions – Lord Carver
Wurmwood, The Tree of Fate
Cassius, The Oathkeeper
Sentry Stone & Manakins
Sentry Stone & Manakins
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew
Meat Thresher (Proxied by a blast template because Adam can’t remember his models)
I had only ever played against pigs once before and it didn’t last very long so i was quite unfamiliar with what his list would do, however Adam had never played against Wurmwood so we were both in the dark. Fortunatley for me his list didn’t have too many tricks that it could pull. My plan was, as always. Keep him out of the scenario with my feat and then a follow up of angry beasts and slowly edge out a scenario win. I won the dice roll and decided to let my opponent go first as there was a flag on one side that had a side completely in the forest so i knew i could hide wurmwood there and chill.
Pretty standard deployment from both of us. I deployed with Wurmwood in front of the flag with my sentry stones opposite his flag with the intention of throwing manikins at him every turn. My major mistake was deploying my Bloodweaver on the opposite side to Wurmwood so i couldn’t take advantage of their souls.
He deployed his brigands and meat thresher over opposite my flag along with the gun boar. With all four of his heavies opposite my flag, Carver being deployed centrally.
Pigs Turn One:
Adam runs up with his stuff after casting mobility from Carver, keeping his brigands well back so that i can’t hell mouth them through Cassius. His beasts hang out near his flag with one of them moving towards the central zone.
Circle Turn One:
This is a turn when i forgot how my spells work. I see his brigands near his thresher and think to myself. “Oooh they are within 3 of the thresher, i can pull them in and then boom!” So i move Cassius up and hell mouth only to then realise that that isn’t how it works and i only succeed in doing about 3 points of damage to the thresher. (Should have strangleheld the Thresher and the Gun Boar… Oops!) I unpack the rest of my things and throw some manikins at his beasts to be annoying.
Pigs Turn Two:
Adam gets to work, he puts up mobility and batten down the hatches and then puts some shots into my Pureblood and a Wyrd from his thresher and gun boar doing a few points of chip damage while his brigands continue to hang back in fear of hell mouth. His beasts move across to screen Carver who moves over onto the flag with one of the road hogs taking a pot shot, killing off a manakin and getting double sixes on my Feral for damage, gross! Meanwhile one of his road hogs tramples over to a sentry stone and drops it.
Circle Turn Two:
I look at the field and notice that there is only a single heavy in the zone. Time to start scoring! I start by spawning in a manakin who runs around to behind the beast ready to be hell mouthed. I’m about to run Cassius over when i double check my measurement and realise that the best will still be toeing the zone due to the angle my manakin has to be at in order to be in range of the spell. I knew i had to try and kill it so i charged in with my Argus and Doppler barked, i then combo strike with my charge attack and do a few points of damage. Then two of my Woldwyrds walk up, one of them with Wraithbaine to get around the arm buff from batten down the hatches and with a lot of boosts and some decent dice rolling i manage to drop the beast. My good dice don’t last however as my Feral charges the Road hog who trampled in and proceeds to do about 10 damage with 6 attacks against him. My Bloodweavers add some Jam to the Bacon and Wurmwood gets ported into the zone by stones and feats.
2-0 To Circle
Pigs Turn Three:
Carver does what he’s done all game. He puts up mobility and Batten down the hatches only this time he also feats and then walks into the zone ensuring i don’t have the movement to walk through the house at him with my Pureblood. His Roadhog flattens my Feral and then also removes the couple of weavers who i threw at him for grievous wounds. He clears out my jam with his beasts including my Argus (Because i forgot I had Doppler barked, he should have been stuck out of range. I’m such a spazz) Then overtook into the zone (Again, Derp) His meat thresher moved up to toe the zone and took some shots at my Wyrd which all missed. His gun boar moved up through the woods with pathfinder and put a shot into Wurmwood doing 5 damage to him, killing Lanyssa, and laying down 7 points of damage on Cassius. Nobody Scores..
2-0 To Circle. (forgot to take a photo! D:)
Circle Turn Three:
I felt pretty down and out here. Losing my Feral, all but one weaver, Lanyssa and my Argus and then having to deal with a ton of stuff in the zone felt like an uphill struggle. I saw Carver was on 0 camp and went for an assassination run. My plan was to put curse of shadows onto Carver, shoot him up with my Wyrds and a spray, then port Cassius over to him with 7 fury on Wurmwood and beat the devil out of him (With Wraithbaine on him too) However, I made a bit of a pigs ear out of it (Pun intended) I ported Wurmwood over to have LOS to Captain Bacon and put my curse of shadows on him, but then realised that i needed to use the stones to get Cassius in there… Oops! Time for the Wyrds to shine, I moved up with one of them and put 3 shots into him, dealing a good chunk of damage, my second one advanced but couldn’t get far enough to avoid him getting cover from the building, i managed to hit the first shot and boosted the damage, i missed the second shot and then went for the third unboosted and managed to score the hit, i boosted and it was enough to force a tough check.. which he passed, and due to Batten down the hatches he didn’t even get knocked down. I managed to get my Pureblood round his stuff due to ghostly and fired off a spray in his back arc, this was enough to kill him and this time he failed his tough check.
Victory for Circle!
After game thoughts:
I didn’t feel happy with this game. I made a lot of silly mistakes all the way through and i can’t even put it down to rust as it had only been a week since my last game. I could have probably kept playing scenario too as i was ahead 2-0 and could have probably removed his meat thresher with my Pureblood with curse of shadows and then started scoring on my flag but i felt the assassination was a decent enough chance even with me messing it up. Besides, what would a game against Adam be if he wasn’t beating me before losing to an assassination? ;p
